The ICT Open Day

May 7, 2009 by Jim Morton

Yesterday, we took part in the annual ICT open day – an opportunity for staff all over the authority to find out about how ICT operates in Warwickshire, learn about our plans for the future and eat their own weight in free sandwiches and cocktail sausages.

We branded our stand as “Tomorrows World”, complete with minimalist retro signage (the font is called pocket calculator in case you are interested) and took the opportunity to promote the R&D work being completed as part of the applications strategy work. Our intention was to demonstrate that some of the concepts we have been pushing have reached a level of maturity and are now relevant to the way we should be working as an authority.

Practical examples such the google map showing the location of our mobile libraries (using a feed from an existing Lotus Notes database) really helped to get our message across and now we have a number of meetings to set up with staff across the authority to explore the ways in which we can use our strategy to help improve WCC services.

Marvellous.

Oh, heres a picture of James, looking very smooth despite intereference from a nearby pot plant.
